Qualifications and work experience

I studied the English language in the Netherlands and at the university of Cambridge. Between 1981 and 1992, I lived and worked in New Zealand. After returning to the Netherlands, I studied to become a translator (English <> Dutch), and I did a NIMA communications course. In New Zealand I mostly worked for commercial companies. Since 1997 I have been working in a scientific environment, and since 2008 I am employed as in-house English-language editor at the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency.

Corporate social responsibility

Working in an environmentally friendly office is important to me. Therefore, I try to conduct my operating activities in as 'green' a manner as possible. To me, this means:

I work from home and customer contact is conducted mainly by telephone or email – which means little or no traffic-related pollution;

I print out only the absolute minimum number of documents – I work solely from the computer screen and, usually, assignments are returned by email;

Computers, lighting and other electric equipment runs on green energy, and my computer uses a LED monitor;

The central heating runs on green gas;

I use a solar charger to recharge my mobile phones;

And in all light fittings I use compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) or LEDs.

Which leaves the small matter of the name...

Dunfield Editing was named after Dunfield Cottage, the New Zealand farmhouse, in which I lived in the 1980s, and where I spent some wonderful years with my family.
I was told that the previous owners had named the farm for the colour of the fields; at the end of summer, the dry weather would turn everything to a dun colour; it is a type of light grey-brown, a beautiful earthy colour.
